ABOUT ASHA

Asha.lu was founded in 2007 by a group of individuals working in the Luxembourgish financial services sector. Asha.lu primarily supports the work of the Handmaidens of Blessed Trinity in Mumbai, an order of nuns who run and maintain a number of Mumbai orphanages. The first orphanage was founded by two sisters (one of whom, Sister M Paulette used to work with Mother Teresa) with limited resources and now has day care centers at Andheri, Vasai and Uttan to provide food, care and shelter for 140 children, aged mostly between five and fifteen years. There are 20 children at Andheri, 100 children at Vasai and 20 children at the Uttan center. The aim of Asha.lu to partner with the other charities supporting HOBT and “enable deprived children an opportunity to lead a life of dignity and self-respect and help them in becoming independent and responsible citizens”.

Asha.lu does not receive any guaranteed government or corporate financial assistance, is voluntarily staffed, and has no paid employees. It has no endowments or permanent forms of income, and administrative outlays are minimal. All cash received by Asha.lu comes entirely and directly from donors like you. Without your assistance, we could not continue with the work we are doing. The founding directors of Asha.lu are Orla Buckley (President), Van Quang Nguyen (Joint Treasurer), Viviene Risch (Joint Treasurer) and Dermot Doyle (Secretary).
